Invite morning happiness into your life

In theory, a day can be divided into eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work and eight hours of recreation. I can hear you thinking, “Where does commuting, cooking and cleaning fit in? Is that part of my ‘free time’?”

We often rush through the morning. We go to work. Then we go home. And if there’s any time left at the end of the day, we might make time for something we love. But why don’t we change things up and set the tone for the day by waking up early and doing something that makes us happy?

Benefits of waking up early

According to Ayurveda, what you do in the early hours of the day sets the tone for your entire day. Waking up early in the morning is often quite the struggle. You just can’t get yourself out of your comfortable bed and once you do, you rush through your morning routine and arrive at work feeling stressed. However, if you start your day off on a happy note, you’re likely to feel much more relaxed and reap the benefits of that the entire day.

Waking up early and doing something that makes you happy has a great impact on your mental health. Early risers often feel more optimistic and are more likely to experience satisfaction in their lives. Did you know many successful people happen to be early risers? Different studies have shown that your productivity increases and you’re more likely to achieve your goals when you start your day doing something you enjoy.

Little moments of meaning

Morning happiness doesn’t have to be a big production or take up a long period of time. Start the week with a treat by making yourself a Sunday morning breakfast on a Monday. Wake up fifteen minutes earlier to read a chapter of a book or take some extra time to watch an episode of your favourite show. Instead of showering in a rush, start the day with a bath. Or why don’t you meet a friend in a cosy café for breakfast or a coffee? Take a stroll outside, energize yourself with some exercise or simply enjoy a moment of peace in the quiet morning hours. Just do something that makes you happy.

When you make waking up early a habit, you’ll experience less stress and more satisfaction from the things you do. Challenge yourself by setting your alarm a little bit earlier for tomorrow, greet the day by doing something you love and invite more happiness into your life.
