Discover beautiful nature in your own backyard

We all know that spending time outside is good for your body and good for your soul. And after a long, dark winter, there’s nothing better than soaking up some of that spring sunshine. We’ve selected 3 local places to help you reconnect with nature in unique and meaningful ways.

A luxurious hangout in the trees

If you think staying in nature means forgoing all of your creature comforts, you obviously haven’t heard of Westerbergen Vacation Park and its extremely luxurious treehouse. Situated in Drenthe in a 200- year- old tree that borders the Dwingelderveld National Park, you can enjoy life at the top—both figuratively and literally! Along with being surrounded by lush nature that’s home to several family-friendly activities, you can actually choose to relax the night away in a Jacuzzi sitting several metres in the sky.

Nurture your soul in a national park

De Hoge Veluwe is an exceptional place, even by national park standards. Called “the green heart of the Netherlands,” the park is 5,400 acres of nature, including both dry and wet heaths, grasslands and fens. Marked with many beautiful walking and biking routes and home to an astounding amount of wildlife, the park also offers outdoor meditation lessons. We can’t think of a better way to unwind than that!

Eco-chic accommodation

Staying in nature doesn’t have to be detrimental to the environment, as evidenced by The Eco-lodge in The Biesbosch National Park. Floating in a pond on the edge of park, the lodge looks over the gorgeous landscape of the Zuilse Polder. It is ingeniously built, with its own toilet, 3 beds and a watch tower. The extremely large windows offer you beautiful views in case the weather forces you to stay inside.  There are no cars allowed for up to 2km away, giving you an ultimate feeling of being alone in nature.

American naturalist and conservationist John Muir famously said, “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” Start your search in any one of these places and your body and soul are sure to thank you for it.
