Expert and author Richard ‘The Breath Guy’ Tryon reveals the secrets to beat stress, boost energy and more just with your breath.

Your breath is a powerful wellbeing tool if you know how to use it, but the automatic nature of breathing means that, chances are, you rarely think about it. Breathwork – the practice of taking conscious control over your breath - can have a profound effect on your body, mind and even, if you dig a little deeper, your soul.

There are so many ways you can influence your breath to support your wellbeing, whether it’s extending the exhale, speeding up or slowing down your breaths, or consciously choosing to breathe through your mouth or your nose, breathwork is a powerful wellbeing tool. And science backs it up (you can read all about the history and science of breathwork in the article What is breathwork? The secret to breathing right for calm, energy & more in the masterclass itself, trust us it’s truly eye-opening).

Richard Tryon, known as “The Breath Guy”, is a leading figure in the Breathwork world. He is a Breathwork coach, author, and speaker, and it is his mission to spread the life-changing possibilities of Breathwork to the world. Richard is a board member of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance, an organisation dedicated to promoting the training and ethical standards for Breathwork and supporting the integration of Breathwork globally as a vital and evidence-based healing modality. He is also a member of the Global Wellness Institute Breathe Initiative, dedicated to sharing the various modalities and the science of breath with the world.

Breathwork found Richard when his father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. “I was searching for anything that could help him, which led me to the work of Wim Hof, whose Breathwork and cold exposure exercises had anecdotal evidence of helping with autoimmune diseases.

“Curious to learn more, I went to 5-day retreat in Poland to experience Wim Hof’s method. Now when people think about Wim Hof, they usually think about ice baths and walking around in the snow in your underwear. It’s the cold exposure activities that get people’s interest. But for me, it was the Breathwork that was far more remarkable.”

Richard left the retreat thinking about the breathwork benefits he had experienced and asking himself, 'How is it possible that everyone in the world doesn’t know about this?’. This was the question that led to him finding his life’s mission.

Back home, Richard shared the breathwork methods with his father. The Breathwork, cold exposure and diet changes stopped his MS from progressing. Since then, Richard has devoted his work to exploring these Breathwork practices and the many benefits in more depth. “I was absolutely blown away with how quickly Breathwork could change my state. Regardless of how I was feeling, I knew that if I would breathe in certain ways, I could aways bring myself back to a place of centeredness and groundedness.”

And it is some of these benefits that Richard is sharing in this masterclass with you. Our Just Breathe Breathwork Masterclass is available for free, alongside our other masterclasses including The Happiness Challenge, Mindfulness for Modern Life and more on the Rituals app. Download the Rituals app here, head to the magazine section and start the masterclass today.
