The Art of Soulful Living: Authenticity

Our philosophy, The Art of Soulful Living is brought to life through our compass, which acts as a guide to personal wellbeing. This month, we are focusing on Authenticity, one of the points on our compass. The key to a happy and fulfilled life is living authentically and being true to who you are – whatever life throws at you.

Even though all compass themes are important to explore, authenticity is the fundamental starting point, if you will, because without a good understanding of who you truly are, you can never represent your true nature or beliefs. Authenticity is about being true to who you are deep down inside, not how you think others or the world should view you. It is also about realising what your core values are: Do you value loyalty, honesty, kindness, love? Or is it compassion, humour, consistency?

Finding your true voice and being true to yourself – in every aspect of your life – will help you when you feel lacking in purpose, direction, or enthusiasm for the work you do, the hobbies you explore, or the relationships you engage and invest in. In that sense, finding your authenticity might be the biggest journey you undertake, for it will help you achieve a much better understanding of what makes you truly come alive, what you intrinsically like, need, desire, and what brings you ultimate and genuine joy.

Being authentic requires tremendous courage to be honest with yourself about who you are and to embrace every aspect of your personality. That means celebrating and cultivating all the things you like, but also accepting the character traits you might not be so enamoured with. Listen to the whispers of your soul, for they will guide you on your journey towards staying true to your own unique nature, and to living a life of meaning and fulfilment.
